Department of Defense Mentor-Protégé Program

The Department of Defense Mentor-Protégé Program (DoD MPP) is the oldest continuously operating federal mentor-protégé program in existence. Originally established during the First Gulf War, the MPP helps small businesses expand their footprint in the defense industrial base. Under the MPP, small businesses are partnered with larger companies. In the past five years, DoD’s MPP has successfully helped more than 190 small businesses fill unique niches and become part of the military’s supply chain. Successful mentor-protégé agreements provide a winning relationship for the protégé, the mentor and the DoD.

TIME Systems became part of the DoD MPP in 2015 with Lockheed Martin as our mentor, which was transferred to Leidos in 2016. Leidos is one of the first businesses authorized under the DoD MPP to create relationships with small businesses, especially Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs) like TIME Systems. At minimum, Leidos provides its Protégé businesses with training, mentorship, technology transfer, and certifications.

Small Business Administration Business Development Mentor-Protégé Program

The Small Business Administration (SBA) Business Development Mentor-Protégé Program (BD MPP) partners a small business, one of the participants in its 8(a) program, with a larger company which can share business development resources and training to facilitate the small business’s progress with meeting its goals and enhancing its capabilities. The goal of the program is to provide small businesses with the necessary assistance to be competitive, achieve entrepreneurial success, and contribute to the strength and vigor of the economy.

Through this program, TIME Systems formed a partnership in 2016 with mentor Millennium Corporation, thereby becoming part of the Millennium Partner Network, an organization of over 20 large businesses, small businesses, and academic organizations created to develop Millennium’s capabilities and complement their skills. The Mentor-Protégé relationship was such a success that TIME Systems and Millennium Corporation went on to form an SBA Joint Venture, MTS Advantage, LLC.
